Want To Get Paid To Travel? Here’s What You Need To Do

Posted on March 17, 2019March 17, 2019 by Apeksha

When a regular 9-5 job doesn’t cut it, look for something that’s not as conventional as sitting behind a computer. Something like moving to another country and harvesting grapes, or opening your own business. Recently, an Italian town was offering foreigners US$10,000 to settle down there, while another was promising US$1,000 per child if you have a baby in the ghost town. Fidgety feet? Well, there are less permanent solutions, too. How about a job that takes you places and gives you money for travelling? The ‘get paid to travel’ jobs are on the rise and this one by travel company Busabout is for the adventurous, spontaneous souls.

The Great Travel Experiment

Bus adventure company Busabout is looking for six content creators who would travel across three continents, Europe, Asia and the USA. These up-for-anything travellers will capture their journeys on social media and tell their story to the Busabout audience. But here’s the catch: What experiences they have will be decided by the company’s Instagram followers, which means you could be asked do anything: from skydiving to eating reptiles.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bu3ZHtbhmPk/

The Roles

The company is looking for three Instagrammers and three videographers, who would pair up and travel on one of the three itineraries. Each winner would be paid US$260 per week and all the accommodation and transportation costs will be covered (including tickets; visa not included).

The Instagram storyteller needs to be comfortable in front of the camera. He/she will need to post Instagram-perfect daily stories and two posts per week on the company’s page. The videographer needs to have matchless editing skills and he/she will be required to submit short weekly videos.

The trip to Asia is scheduled for May 5 to June 12; the US for June 12 to July 20; Europe for July 20 to September 3.

How To Apply

If you want to submit your entry, create and upload a one-minute YouTube video telling the story of your hometown. Include the Great Travel Experiment logo in the video. Additionally, you’ll also need to use #travelexperiment and #busabout and following the page gets you brownie points. Once your video is live, fill the application form and mention which role you’re applying for.

Participants need to be above 18 years of age. All submissions need to be in English. Application open till April 8. Winners will be decided by public vote.

#30DaysofBlues: Jodhpur's old quarter, protected b #30DaysofBlues: Jodhpur's old quarter, protected by the 15th century Mehrangarh Fort, is painted in rich blues. The city in Rajasthan is known for its colours and vibrancy, and the indigo houses are part of the charm.

Jodhpur was founded by the Rathods in 1459. The city flourished in the British rules and Marwaris prospered with the city. After India gained Independence, it became part of Rajasthan. The royal family today resides in the @ajitbhawan, which is also open to guests.

This little insight into the city's history is etched on the walls of the indomitable fort. Come here during one of the music festivals, Jodhpur RIFF or World Sacred Spirit Festival, to fully experience the legacy and culture of Jodhpur. There are beautiful hotels that pay homage to its culture, including @umaidbhawanpalace and @raashotels, where you can live like royalty.

They will be quietly grazing in the valleys, munching on sweet flowers, as you trek in the Alps. Stop and click a few pictures because these gentle animals deserve to be celebrated.

Holy Cow! There are 1.59 million cows in the small dot of a country in Europe. Cow farmers herd the cows up to the Alpine pastures in June, so they can feast on flowers and soak in the summer sun. Those bells that #DilwaleDulhaniaLeJayenge has made famous are part of this tradition. The spring flowers that make their diet is good for the milk and we know how delicious dairy products in Switzerland are ๐Ÿซ

Did you know that there are more than 450 varieties of Swiss Cheese? And there's the delicious hot chocolate and the likes of Toblerone and Lindt ๐Ÿ˜

Switzerland is a beef-eating nation, but it has strong laws for animal welfare, even if they are being butchered for meat. Cows are valued in the country and they're even beauty contests for them!

Hawaii has long complained of over-tourism, with more than 10 million tourists flocking to the islands last year. The state is thinking of introducing new rules to make travel more sustainable and environment-friendly. One of the measures taken is banning sunscreen that harms the corals (it will come into effect in 2021).

A boat trip from #Phuket, Ko Phi Phi has two major islands: Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh. Ko Phi Phi Don is overrun by tourists who party on the beaches and swim in the ocean, while Ko Phi Phi Leh is the quieter sibling where travellers go for day cruises. If you want to explore Ko Phi Phi and its marine life (great coral reef), be prepared to encounter hoardes of tourists. Tucked in a relatively quieter corner, Phi Phi Island Beach Resort features beachfront bungalows, pools and restaurants, and there's a village nearby for relaxed dining. The resort is also trying to revive the marine life on the island, so if you want to learn about their sustainable initiatives, visit the Marine Discovery Centre.

From Delhi, it's a long way to #PortBlair via Calcutta, but once you reach #HavelockIsland, it's a sight that soothes the soul.

#RadhanagarBeach is the go-to in the Andamans. Its tropical setting is straight out of a travel guide (still not as populated as other #beachesinIndia). But you'd still have to fight the crowds at sunset ๐ŸŒ„

On this #islandgetaway, you can swim in the ocean, explore the forests, eat delicious seafood and learn about the history and culture. Did you know that Andaman and Nicobar islands are home to six indigenious tribes who still live by their own rules?
Two years ago, an American evangelist was killed on a forbidden Andaman island by the endangered tribe who are one of the few people on earth who have lived without outside contact. While travelling to the islands, it's much more important to understand the people who thrive here and their relationship with nature.

There are many resorts on the island now include @taj_andamans and @barefootresorts. These are currently closed due to Coronavirus, but once they open, they can become your window to this beautiful group of islands ๐ŸŒด

I packed, dealt with some #travelanxiety and took off. The day I arrived, I was so confident that I'd just need a few hours to get into the zone and I assured my friend that we can go out in two hours. I was out like a light in a couple of minutes of talking and then tired for the next two days. #Sydney gave me confidence to #travelsolo again after years (my friend had work), and I visited @tarongazoo, #ManlyBeach, #TheRocks. One afternoon, I just sat on a bench around #CircularQuay and read #Educated by Tara Westover.
#NewYearFireworks happened as schedule, but there was a lot of grief in the air because the country was fighting #bushfires everywhere. We had to be cautious on the #GreatOceanDrive because the fires could shut the routes down. We were lucky though--we made it and saw the invincible @12Apostles and #LochArdGorge.
I came back with over 2,400 photographs (never have I ever clicked so many before on a trip) and great memories from a country that helped me heal. What a trip!

The UK has rejected my visa twice. Once even after The UK has rejected my visa twice. Once even after an invitation letter from @airbnb. They didn't trust that I'll come back. The worst part? What has it taught me? Things don't always go your way. Sometimes, you need a Plan B in life. Sometimes, there's none and you learn to live with it. I'm not so obsessed with the city anymore, because you also grow out of your fantasies, which is not a bad thing ๐Ÿ“ธ: Unsplash
