On (most) Sunday nights, I remember to switch on the TV and watch Koffee With Karan. Tonight may have been the best episode of this season—the show has been as dull as a hairbrush, with Aamir Khan taking the cake. Vicky Kaushal and Ayushmann Khurrana were on the couch and I had this epiphany: Sri Lanka is the Vicky Kaushal of travel!
Before you dismiss this as rubbish, hear me out.
Both Are Underdogs
The 30-year-old started out small, with roles in Luv Tuv Tey Chicken Khuranaand Bombay Velvet. The talented actor was right under the nose, but it was the Khans and Kapoors (and The Johar) calling the shots in the industry. However this year, Vicky’s movie Raazientered the Rs 100 crore club and he made a mark in the Rs 586 crore movie, Sanju.
Sri Lanka, our underrated neighbour, is often ignored for other Asian nations in the vicinity and of course, Europe. The civil war has left its scars, but the country is safe and friendly. But there has been an increase in visitors to the country and the country has welcomed a record of 2.1M tourists in 2017.
It is only recently that both Vicky Kaushal and the Indian Ocean country have started getting their due.
Both Are Beautiful
I am not objectifying Vicky Kaushal, but would you just look at that?
And now, hold your breath because you’d want to take this handsome hunk to see these landscapes.
Sri Lanka Doesn’t Feel Like A Stranger…Like Vicky Kaushal
It was ruled by the English, as were we. They have a considerable Tamil population. Even they love their rice and curry and tea and spices. The people open their hearts to visitors and it really doesn’t feel like you’re too far from home—may be because you’re not (it’s just a three-and-a-half-hour flight).
Now look at our Masaan actor: Doesn’t he look like someone you can be friends with (unlike a certain hard-to-get Khan who now performs as a background dancer at ‘some’ weddings). But please don’t typecast him as the friend of the hero—it’s more his warm personality than ‘he’s such a friend’ face.
Both Are Expected To Get More Attention
Do you doubt it? I’m certainly going to visit Sri Lanka again in 2019—I still have to explore Yala, Kandy and Colombo. Vicky is all ready with his next release, Uri, and like I said, don’t typecast him as a man in uniform (even if he melts hearts in that avatar).
Still don’t agree with me? Oh well, then you just wasted five minutes of your life. Five minutes that you could have used to book the tickets to Sri Lanka. Why am I hard selling it? It was love at first sight (just like Vicky Kaushal).
